About the gorges
Morocco's canyon country
The Todra Gorge's sheer rock walls narrow to just 10 metres apart at their base, rising 300 metres overhead — a favorite for rock climbers and an easy stop on the road between Ouarzazate and Merzouga.
Nearby, the Dades Gorge winds through the 'Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs' and the otherworldly rock formations known as the Monkey Fingers, with switchback roads climbing toward the High Atlas passes.
Both valleys are dotted with earthen Berber villages clinging to the cliffs, largely unchanged for generations, and make for some of the most dramatic scenery on any southern Morocco circuit.
